The Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund comes from the Learning and Skills Council South Yorkshire (LSC SY) through Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council who act as the accountable body for administering the fund.
Why is it important?
Research shows that non-traditional learners are more likely to engage in the learning process if provision is relevant and delivered in an environment that is familiar and non-threatening. NLDC funding enables local organisations to develop tailored provision that is more likely to attract and successfully engage the residents of deprived communities. NLDC funding has already encouraged groups with no previous experience of providing training to explore opportunities previously unavailable to them.
The following executive summary of the evaluation of NLDC funding provides further information regarding the importance of this funding and recent successes.
