Being a volunteer is a brilliant way to:
- learn new skills and develop your interests
- gain valuable work experience and improve your employability
- enhance your job applications and CV
- have a go at a particular job to test your reaction to it
- help others and put something back into your community
- make new friends and increase your confidence
- occupy yourself meaningfully when you’re not employed
There are many different opportunities for you to get involved in volunteering and the links below will give you some ideas. Another helpful contact is the Doncaster Volunteer Centre 01302 363818 or email. As a volunteer, you probably won’t receive payment for what you do but you may be able to claim expenses, such as travel costs and training fees.
Opportunities are very varied, for example Age Concern currently require volunteers willing to share their memories of WW2 with school children (call 01302 812345 for details) for their Living History Project.
Have a think about:
- what you want to do and where you want to do it
- why you want to do it and what you want to get out of it
- the group or organisation you want to work with
- the time, skills and experience you have to offer
