Jobs & Careers - Upping your skills

<< back

According to most studies, the more and higher skills you have, the better your chances of employment and the greater your earnings. Employers have to compete with other companies, in Doncaster, in Yorkshire, in the UK and around the world.

One of the best ways for them to gain an edge over their rivals is to upskill their workforce, so that staff can use the latest technology, create more efficient ways of working, invent new products and provide superior customer service.

Naturally, you can make yourself more essential to your current employer and to other prospective employers if you continually upgrade your own skills. The sorts of skills employers are looking for include:

  • vocational - those relevant to their business now and in the future
  • IT/ITC – most businesses need people who are computer literate
  • life skills – reading, writing and maths are vital to every job
