The Learning Gateways Learner Management System
As part of your agreement to be a Learning Gateways centre you have also agreed to be a part of the Learning Gateways Learner Management System (LMS). This is not as scary as it may sound; the Learning Gateways LMS is simple and easy to use. The LMS is a system which records data about the people who use your centre. It is quick to fill in and everything in the system is clearly identified and labelled.
If you are still worried or unsure about using the LMS there is an online training module to help you get to grips with the system. This will show you how to use the system and how to fill in all of the relevant fields. You can go back and re-read parts of the training as many times as you need until you feel confident using the LMS.
Why is it needed?
The LMS is needed to help the Learning Gateways team build up a complete picture of learning in Doncaster that can then be provided for planning services at various levels including to the Learning and Skills Council.
To get up to date statistics for your centre just contact the Learning Gateway team or follow this link for examples.
These will include how many learners you have had of different categories (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity) but also what interventions you did for them - either enrolling them on a course or directing them to another centre or to a guidance interview.
You can then use this data to help develop your centre further or to support applications for resources. If you are worried about how to understand the data and how to interpret it, don’t worry! Speak to the Learning Gateways staff who will be able to talk you through it.
